Thomas and Judy Ward are both 4th generation Coloradoans. Their families came to Colorado in the 1800s as farmers, lawyers, miners, ranchers, and businessmen. Tom had a 30 year career in education teaching history and geography at Littleton High School. Judy began her career as a science and math teacher but later became a CPA and Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Always interested in education, Tom and Judy were instrumental in founding two schools: Children’s Garden Montessori School and Escuela de Guadalupe, a dual language school serving primarily Hispanic students. The Wards’ interest in education motivated them to set up a 20-year charitable trust in 1995, which Judy managed for 20 years. This trust provided the capital for a CU Denver scholarship fund, a prize in Public History, and a scholarship fund at Escuela de Guadalupe.
Tom’s interests include the Colorado Mountains and nature therein, Colorado history, geology including adding to his mineral collection, fly-fishing, hiking and reading. Judy’s interests include philanthropy, finance, investing, fly-fishing, skiing and genealogy. Judy is an alumna and active supporter of the University of Colorado Denver.
Stemming from their good fortune, Tom and Judy hope to enable first generation CU Denver students to earn an undergraduate degree reasonably free of debt. It is their hope that Ward scholars better their lives, their family’s life, and the communities in which they live and, if possible, be generous to future generations of students.
